Nico Hülkenberg has talked in detail for the first time with regards to the loss of his Williams race seat following what was regarded as many as a respectable debut season in 2010. Now reserve driver for Force India, the German finished second only to World Champion Sebastian Vettel as Day 1 of Valencia testing took place on Tuesday.
Confirmed with the Silverstone-based team alongside Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta, Hülkenberg will be taking part in Friday Free Practice sessions this season and, while respecting Force India for its confidence in him, he admits that not racing is a painful reality.
“I knew for weeks that things weren’t certain and, for sure, it’s unfortunate that we’ve gone our separate ways now because I had a good relationship with the team,” Hülkenberg told GPUpdate.net of his split with Williams.
“You find yourself just waiting and you’re missing the chance to do something towards your goals. Losing the race seat was really disappointing, and I think we know for what reasons that happened, but it’s all in the past now. Now you know what I think about it, because it’s behind me, but now is the time to look forward and trying to work out how to get back into it.
“I just know that, if I keep my head down all the time now, that can help be getting forward. I just wanted the chance to drive the car at any time, especially having the chance on the race weekends.”
