Mercedes keen to re-sign Schumacher
14 March 2011 – Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug has said that the company would be more than happy to retain Michael Schumacher before the German’s current contract expires as the end of the 2012 season. The seven-time World Champion is currently entering his second of three planned terms with the silver arrows.
Now 42, Schumacher made a highly-unexpected return to the Grand Prix scene with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer last year, although Haug insists that the deal may run for longer than the currently planned trio of seasons.
“If Michael wants to renew and we can agree on a good price, I’d be very happy.” Haug, Mercedes’ Vice President for Motorsport, explained to German publication Bild.
“Of course we are open to discussions because we feel the team very good,” added Sabine Kehm, now manager to Schumacher. “Michael is totally motivated and Mercedes Grand Prix can still give a lot.”
