Kubica to know more in the summer

22 April 2011

Robert Kubica will have to wait another three more months before he will know if it will be possible for him to return to the sport. Kubica, who is currently still recovering following his horrendous rally accident back in February, is hoping to be discharged from Santa Corona hospital ‘within the next ten days’.

Yesterday the Polish driver said he was ‘starting to feel a lot better’ and that his ‘recovery was moving in the right direction’. However one of the doctors treating him, Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli, told Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport, that more time is needed before it will be known what the long term implications are of his crash.

“We will understand six months after the accident,” he told the ‘paper. “We need to wait for nature to run its course even though, knowing Robert, we are confident in his strength.

"Due to his hand, leg, shoulder and elbow injuries, Robert combines three patients into one. Rebuilding the nerves [in his hand] is the longest process, so it's difficult to understand in the first four months what the recovery will be like. He has good sensitivity, but not in every spot

"The leg poses little problem. Robert places the load on the left one and has started to load the other one progressively."
