Head: Parr not in position to announce my retirement

5 May 2011

Williams' Patrick Head has rebuffed suggestions from Adam Parr that he will be retiring at the end of 2011. In a somewhat surprised reaction, the Director of Engineering claims that the team Chairman holds no right to make such statements.

“What you are telling me is news to me,” 65-year-old Head, who formed the team with Frank Williams in 1977, told The Guardian. “I wasn't aware that Adam had said that. He wasn't in a position to make that statement. My plans are not in the public domain and they will only be when I make my own statement later in the year.”

“Patrick has made it clear that he’ll be retiring this year so, at some point this year, that will happen,” Parr had explained to reporters in a Tuesday news conference.

Also on Thursday, a Williams insider is quoted as delivering the following summary of current affairs at Grove:

“There are a few things wrong at Williams at the moment and Sam and Jon (Michael and Tomlinson, whose departures have been announced this week) are little more than scapegoats. Sam is a good man who was overworked, though he probably should have appointed better people around him.”
