Kubica could return for Brazil, says manager

14 June 2011

Daniel Morelli, manager for Robert Kubica, still believes that the Renault racer may be fit enough to return to action for November’s season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix. The Pole continues to receive treatment for the rally accident which came close to taking his life in the pre-season testing period of February.

Kubica’s crash in Italy happened shortly after the Formula 1 winter test in Valencia, where the Kraków man had expressed his particular optimism ahead of the season. At present, Nick Heidfeld is substituting alongside Vitaly Petrov.

“Robert’s recovery is progressing positively,” Morelli explained to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport. “The right leg is fine; if that was the only problem, Robert would be practically ready to return – so that’s not our worry.

“When Robert gets in the simulator he'll immediately understand whether he's able to come back, how and when, and without the need of a stop-watch.”

It is believed that Kubica’s prime concern continues to be his right hand, which was partially severed as a metal roadside barrier impaled the Skoda Fabia he was driving. Regaining full nervous ability is key in being able to manage the full operation of a racing car.
