Development race the key battle, says Newey

Development race the key battle, says Newey

17 June 2011

While acknowledging that Red Bull Racing has a rapid and reliable car at its disposal this year, Chief Designer Adrian Newey stresses that keeping on top of project for the majority of the season is vital for a championship attack. Seven races into the 19-race schedule, the Englishman shares his views.

“I think the whole car is okay,” 52-year-old Newey said in an interview with the official F1 website, pin-pointing a strong engine from Renault.

“We have certainly had a good start to the season, but Formula 1 is all about development. So being quick at the start of the year isn’t enough. You have to the quickest at the end of the season!”

Having enjoyed both Drivers’ and Constructors’ honours in 2010, Newey now targets the double. “We have to win the championship - nothing less,” he began to sum up. “Then I will say it is fantastic.”
