Glock pleased to achieve objective

2011 British Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

Timo Glock was encouraged by Virgin Racing’s performance at Silverstone this afternoon, with both cars reaching the chequered flag ahead of Hispania rivals Vitantonio Liuzzi and Daniel Ricciardo. The German helped his team achieve another two-car finish, crossing the line narrowly in front of team-mate Jérôme d’Ambrosio.

"A good race for us today and a good result for the team in getting both cars to the finish in our home Grand Prix," Glock said after finishing the 52-lap race in 16th place. "It was quite a normal race for us I would say. I got a good start and a good first lap.

"The first couple of corners were a bit of a mess but when everything started to settle down I was in front of Jarno (Trulli) and could hold my pace okay to stay in front of him. After they were out of the race I had a relatively easy time.

"It wasn’t possible to gain places so I didn’t push too hard; I just concentrated on achieving our objective today which was another two-car finish. I’m happy for us and hope for more of the same in my home race in Germany in two weeks’ time."

A difficult opening phase saw d'Ambrosio fall behind his closest rivals, but a stronger second stint allowed him to launch a successful attack on Liuzzi.

"It was very difficult at the beginning when it was wet and I lost quite a bit of time there," the Belgian explained. "Then in the second stint it was okay. I had a good fight with Tonio and managed to overtake him.

"The last stint was very difficult, after a couple of laps I had no grip on the front left tyre so I couldn’t attack much and I just had to back off all the time and just make sure I could last until the end of the race. I was quite worried I might have to come back into the pits again but I managed to keep going and get to the end."
