Kubica confident of 2012 racing return

14 July 2011

Robert Kubica is positive that he can return to the Formula 1 grid next year, having missed the current season after his rallying accident in February. The Pole is continuing with rehabilitation after his right hand was partially severed in the crash which saw a metal roadside barrier impaling his Skoda Fabia.

“Mentally, no problem at all,” Kubica responded to fans’ questions on the Renault team website. “Physically, I am still a bit weak but my general condition is quite good. My weight has now returned to its normal level and for a few weeks I’ve been able to walk without help.

“All in all I feel pretty well. I don’t have any memory of the accident and I am just aware of the consequences it had - so, to me, it’s as if it never happened. As I said before, I am satisfied with how things are proceeding.

“The improvement is in line with the expectations and luckily there are no complications that could affect the recovery time.”

Adding that he hopes to be back on the grid for 2012, Kubica concluded:

“It is still too early to have a clear picture for the timing of my return but the important thing is the final outcome not the hurry.”
