Liuzzi handed five-place grid penalty
HRT’s Vitantonio Liuzzi has been handed a grid penalty of five places for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. It is therefore now almost certain that the Italian driver will start from the back of the field, should qualifying be dry.
The penalty has been incurred due to a gearbox change, with the team having replaced the part ahead of this morning’s final practice session in which Liuzzi finished 21st fastest.
Under the FIA Technical Regulations, a single gearbox must be used for a string of five races in order to avert a penalty.
