Lotus Renault GP driver Vitaly Petrov is expecting to be firmly in the hunt for a strong points finish at the Nürburgring tomorrow afternoon, arguing that his car should perform well in both wet and dry conditions. The Russian will start Sunday’s race from ninth, two places ahead of team-mate Nick Heidfeld who failed to make it into Q3.
"We’re confident we’ve taken a good step forward from Silverstone two weeks ago. We had various difficulties there and we knew that we needed to raise our game. I think it’s clear from the past two days that we can compete well here.
"I’m pleased to have qualified in ninth position on the grid tomorrow because it gives me a good opportunity to really be amongst the points. That said, it was difficult to find the right set-up today and warm the tyres in the cool conditions.
"We can definitely score some good points. However, we know the weather forecast is different; it (the weather) has changed a lot over the last two days so you need to always adapt your driving style. But, whether it is wet or dry tomorrow, we will be ready."
