Trulli hails ‘much better’ power steering

2011 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Team Lotus driver Jarno Trulli says the difference between his new and former power steering system is ‘light and day’, hailing it as a massive improvement at the Hungaroring on Saturday afternoon. The Italian set the 20th fastest time in qualifying, just under two tenths of a second behind Lotus team-mate Heikki Kovalainen.

"The difference is light and day," Trulli told BBC Sport when discussing his updated power steering package. "It’s much, much better. I was quick all weekend, but unfortunately didn’t get it right in qualifying, as I didn’t expect to pick up so much understeer.

"I feel very confident for the rest of the weekend now. Obviously there was nothing I could gain because the power steering wasn’t ready, so I stood out (at the Nürburgring) and waited for this chance. I was more a passenger than a driver before."

The Grand Prix winner failed to confirm his plans for 2012, but admitted that the breakthrough upgrade has raised his spirits for the rest of the year.
