Bird replaces Davidson for Bavaria show

12 August 2011

Mercedes GP protégé Sam Bird will replace the injured Anthony Davidson for the team’s F1 demonstration in Rotterdam next week. A recent bike fall left Davidson with a broken collarbone, forcing the Briton to withdraw from the Bavaria City Racing event.

"We are very sorry that Davidson can not participate in Bavaria City Racing, but fortunately we have Sam Bird as an excellent replacement who knows how to entertain people with a Formula 1 car," said Organizer Herman Vaanholt.

"We are pleased to have another talent who can show themselves to the general public. He will be the first man to drive a Mercedes GP car in Rotterdam."

Bird is currently racing for the iSport squad in GP2, with the 24-year-old occupying fifth place in this year’s standings ahead of the final two rounds.
