Tost: The driver makes a team succeed

17 August 2011

Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost believes a team's success in Formula 1 ‘is always’ dependant on the driver, using current Champion Sebastian Vettel as an example of his belief. The Austrian signed the now Red Bull driver back in 2007, just one season before the latter achieved his first victory at the historic Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

"There will never be another Sebastian Vettel, just as there will never be another Michael Schumacher or Ayrton Senna," Tost, who has been involved at Toro Rosso since 2006, told the official Formula 1 website. "What I think is crucial in the development of a driver from rookie to serious podium contender is that the driver discovers himself.

"There is no such thing as the unerring talent scout. Sebastian Vettel has become World Champion because he has discovered himself - his own capacity and ability. The outside world can only provide the necessary environment, but as I said it is always the driver who makes a team’s success."
