Kubica set for final elbow operation

18 August 2011

Robert Kubica is due to undergo one more operation prior to advancing his recovery programme, with surgeons eager to improve the movement of his right elbow. The Polish driver is still recovering from a serious rally accident in February, but doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli believes the procedure will be a crucial step in the right direction.

"With his elbow blocked, we haven't had the chance to work on a full recovery programme as we would do normally," Ceccarelli explained to Autosport.

"However, we have kept the other joints moving as much as possible, with the goal of having as much flexibility as we can and the greatest possible muscular mass available once the elbow is unblocked."

Kubica is expected to begin some simulator work after the operation, with the Grand Prix winner still focused on making a return to the Formula 1 grid in the future.
