Warwick confirmed as new BRDC President

26 August 2011

As expected, Derek Warwick has been confirmed as new President for Silverstone owners the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC). This follows Thursday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), with Warwick replacing the departed Damon Hill.

Warwick started 147 Formula 1 races over the course of 11 seasons. The Englishman has also celebrated wins in the Le Mans 24 Hours and World Sportscar Championship as well as the British Touring Car Championship.

“First and foremost I would like to thank Damon for the loyalty and commitment he has shown to the BRDC during his time as President,” the 56-year-old commented. “He steered us through some difficult, but ultimately successful times and my aim is to continue where Damon left off.

“The BRDC and Silverstone face an exciting future. We now have a 21st century race circuit with 21st century facilities; over the next five to ten years we have the opportunity to continue developing Silverstone into the best motorsport venue in the world.”

Warwick will be overseeing the second major phase of Silverstone’s redevelopment, which includes the construction of a high-tech business park and hotel.
