Kubica will return to F1, manager repeats

30 August 2011

Daniel Morelli, manager of Robert Kubica, has vowed that the Pole will return to Formula 1 racing once his convalescence is complete. The Kraków driver continues to recover from the violent rallying accident of February which left him, amongst other serious injuries, with a partially severed hand.

Following the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, Renault issued a press release confirming that Kubica’s final operation – aimed at recovering full mobility of his right elbow – had been 100 percent successful.

Following several days of bed rest, the 26-year-old will resume his rehabilitation and training programme.

“I can certainly say that Robert will still race,” Morelli said in an interview with RAI. “Of course, the recovery will take time and will require a long period after surgery, which is a normal process; but in a month or month and a half from now we will know when he should be able to return.”

Elsewhere, former racer Mika Salo has denied rumours that Kubica may have lost his right thumb and that a return to F1 will not be possible. Having been quoted in the Finnish media in relation to a TV commentary at Spa, Salo has explained to GPUpdate.net that the information published was inaccurate.
