Designer Gordon Murray joins Group Lotus

30 August 2011

Group Lotus has announced that legendary Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray has become an advisor for the company, joining the Lotus Advisory Council. The sports car manufacturer – title sponsor of the Renault F1 squad and not related to Team Lotus – will see Murray working on current and future developments.

During his F1 career, Murray worked with McLaren and Brabham and is best known for his Brabham BT46B ‘Fan Car’ which won its only race with Niki Lauda at the wheel (the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix) before being declared illegal.

“For years I’ve been a huge admirer of Lotus,” says Murray. “I have great respect for the legacy that Colin Chapman created and I think what Dany (Bahar, Group Lotus Chief Executive) and the team are doing is a really good thing for the brand.

“He’s taking the strength from Chapman’s principals and taking the business to the next level whilst still keeping the general ethos – not an easy task! I’m really looking forward to contributing to Group Lotus during this exciting time.”
