Trulli with Lotus until end of 2012

11 September 2011

Jarno Trulli has announced that he will remain with Team Lotus for at least another year, revealing his decision to stick with the Norfolk squad for what will be a third season. The Italian joined the outfit when they entered the sport at the start of 2010, helping them outrace rivals HRT and Virgin to tenth spot in the overall Constructors' standings.

Trulli initially struggled with the team's new power steering system in 2011, but a recent change has inspired the Grand Prix winner to continue. The Pescara man is expected to be joined by current team-mate Heikki Kovalainen for another term, but an announcement has not yet been made.

"I am very pleased that we have been able to confirm today that my contract with Team Lotus has been extended into 2012," Trulli explained on Sunday morning. "The challenge I first accepted when I joined the team is becoming more exciting every day, and I am very proud that I can keep helping the team take steps forward for at least another year.

"I would like to thank Tony (Fernandes), Kamarudin (Meranun) and Nasa (Nasarudin) for the chance to keep working with them, Riad (Asmat), Mike (Gascoyne) and the whole team and I am looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead."

Lotus Team Principal Tony Fernandes added: "He has shown in qualifying in Monza just how much pace he has and how he can wring every last drop of performance out of his car and since day one with us he has brought a level of professionalism, insight and raw speed to our team that has helped accelerate our development on and off track."
