2011 Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

A ‘degree of frustration’ is evident in Lewis Hamilton’s driving this year, according to Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. In Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix, the 2008 World Champion spent a handful of laps attempting to pass Michael Schumacher before eventually finishing fourth from second on the grid.

“It's been a poor spell for Lewis and you can sense a degree of frustration in his driving,” Horner is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“He's on first-name terms with most of the stewards this year. He's still a great driver but it's just, for whatever reason, not happening for him.

“Jenson (Button) just looks very comfortable within himself at the moment and his driving has reflected that. They're both phenomenal drivers and Britain is very lucky to have two world-class drivers like Lewis and Jenson but, this year, perhaps without those DNFs Jenson would be much better placed than he currently is.

“Lewis is a phenomenal talent but, for whatever reason, this year has been tough for him.”

After Monza, Button is level with Red Bull’s Mark Webber for third in the championship standings, with Hamilton a further nine points behind.
