McLaren: Ferrari haven’t stopped 2011 development

22 September 2011

McLaren are positive that Ferrari have not completely ceased development on their current F1 car, despite some word from Maranello suggesting that all input has already been transferred to next season’s challenger. As explained by McLaren MD Jonathan Neale, next year’s F1 cars are more evolutionary than revolutionary.

“With a long season that goes on until the end of November, it is just not possible to put 100 percent of your resource onto the programme for this year without doing something for next year, but we have well proven processes inside the organisation that allow us to move resource next year” Neale explained to the official F1 website during a Vodafone Phone-In.

“Despite the fact that our colleagues at Ferrari say that they’ve stopped developing this year’s car, they know as do we that much of the development that we can do on this year’s car - the know-how - will be carried over to next year’s car. It’s an evolution of the rules.

“If you look at various aspects of the car and look at it as a continuous research and development programme, then it’s still very possible to get performance on this year’s car and generate know-how for next year. Those are the areas we’re focusing on now.”
