Renault fined for misleading Senna

2011 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

Renault has been fined €7,500 (£6,500) for providing Bruno Senna with inaccurate information during the Singapore Grand Prix. The night race in Marina Bay proved to be the worst of the year for the Enstone-based team, with Senna finishing 15th as team-mate Vitaly Petrov struggled to 17th behind the Lotus of Heikki Kovalainen.

An official report from the FIA-appointed stewards, released at 11:45pm local time and regarding an incident which took place 70 minutes into the race, was released after Renault informed Senna that the car ahead – the Sauber of Sergio Pérez – was on the same lap; Senna, who was actually a lap down, duly tried to overtake and contact was made between the two cars.

The stewards’ report reads as follows:

‘The team failed to inform the driver of his correct race position which lead to an avoidable collision with Car No. 17 Sergio Pérez.’
