Paul di Resta has maximum confidence in Force India’s abilities to achieve its best ever position in this year’s Constructors’ World Championship. However, the 2011 newcomer admits that seizing a top five placing from Renault is a tall order.
Heading to this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, the Silverstone-based team continues to hold sixth place, with Sauber 12 points behind and Toro Rosso a further seven in arrears. Ahead, the gap to Enstone’s Renault is a larger 22 points.
“I’m feeling very positive,” the Scottish driver comments. “Things have really come together quite well in the middle part of the year and I think we’ve delivered as a team.
"In Singapore the upgrade package worked as we expected and contributed to the end result - that’s a big credit to the team and we’ve all worked very hard to achieve these recent results.”
When asked if snatching fifth place is feasible, the West Lothian man replied:
“It’s definitely achievable, but I think it will be a big ask unless we get quite a bit of luck along the way. The key will be getting both cars in the points, but we’ve also seen that Renault look stronger on certain tracks. So we’re aiming at catching them but well aware they still have quite a points advantage.”
