Frentzen, Verstappen and Stuck for ROC legends

5 October 2011

It has been confirmed by Race of Champions organisers that former Formula 1 racers Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Jos Verstappen (top) and Hans-Joachim Stuck will take part in a special Legends Race. The encounter will be staged as a prelude to this year’s main ROC event, which is to be staged at Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT Arena.

The aforementioned drivers will be joined by World Rally star Armin Schwarz; the race will function with a round-robin group stage before the highest-placed pair go through to face each other in a head-to-head final on the figure-of-eight track.

“I’m really looking forward to competing in the Legends race at the Race of Champions,” says Frentzen, who was F1 championship runner-up in 1997 and won three races over the course of his career (for Williams and Jordan in 1997 and 1999, respectively).

“I had great fun at a previous event in Portugal in 2009. Now that I have just moved back to Germany and Düsseldorf and the race is taking place in my home town, it will be fantastic to compete in front of my family and friends. I can actually see the ESPRIT Arena from my house!”

The 2011 Race of Champions will take place over 3-4 December.
