Sauber is relying on a significantly updated car at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, with local favourite Kamui Kobayashi having ended practice in 16th position following an off-track excursion. Heading into Suzuka, the Hinwil outfit is attempting to retake sixth in the Constructors’ Championship from Force India.
“With all the updates we have to the car here, we were quite busy today checking everything and it’s good that we managed to complete the programme without any problems,” Kobayashi reported.
“My lap time doesn’t look good because I spun in a fast corner when I had my fresh set of Soft tyres.
“Overall I think we can improve the balance of the car, and also our pace, when we now go to look for the best possible solutions for what we have learned today.”
