2011 Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday second free practice results

Michael Schumacher was fined €5,000 (£4,300) by FIA race stewards following Friday practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver, when heading for the pit lane, broke sporting regulations by driving outside of a pit entrance marker.

Due to driving past the bollard on the left, Schumacher was investigated by the stewards – including 1980 World Champion Alan Jones – and duly punished afterwards.

A number of other drivers – Sébastien Buemi, Lewis Hamilton, Heikki Kovalainen and Bruno Senna – were also all summoned due to their speeds when yellow flags flew for Vitantonio Liuzzi’s stoppage; all four were found to have slowed correctly for the yellow zone, meaning no penalties or official reprimands were handed out.
