Rosberg wanting pit exit changes following collision

2011 South Korean Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday second free practice results

Nico Rosberg has stressed that Korea’s pit lane exit should be rectified, following his collision with Jaime Alguersuari in the second free practice session on Friday. As the Toro Rosso exited the pits into the heart of Turn 1 – following the designated route – it was hit unintentionally by Rosberg’s Mercedes, which had locked up its wheels.

As a result of the contact, Rosberg has been asked to explain his version of events to FIA race stewards including former driver Martin Donnelly.

“I would be worth reconsidering the pit exit, if it could perhaps be done a bit differently,” said the German, who – with his front wing jammed under a wheel – had been forced to pull over the on the straight between Turns 2 and 3. “It wasn’t a great situation…it just happened, he was just there at exactly the wrong moment.

“It was unfortunate. I just locked up a little bit and couldn't have avoided him. Afterwards, I could have made it back to the pits but didn’t want to risk damaging the car further; until then, we had been going really well on the Intermediates.”

Although the pit lane exit remains the same as in 2010, organisers have modified the entrance for this year – moving the inside wall of Turn 17 further away from the track in order to improve drivers’ visibility following a host of complaints 12 months ago.
