Ralf Schumacher remains in DTM for 2012

20 October 2011

It has been confirmed that former Jordan, Williams and Toyota driver Ralf Schumacher will remain in German touring car series DTM for the 2012 season, which will mark the German’s fifth campaign in the championship since departing Formula 1 after a final difficult season with Toyota in 2007.

Schumacher will remain with Mercedes, having scored his first two podium finishes - at Hockenheim and the Red Bull Ring - this season.

“DTM is a fantastic championship and, after four years as part of the Mercedes-Benz family, I feel in the best place possible,” says the brother of seven-time World Champion Michael.

“With the new technical regulations and the arrival of BMW on the scene as the third premium manufacturer alongside Audi and Mercedes-Benz, DTM has an exciting future and I feel privileged to be playing my part in development of the new DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé.”

“Ralf Schumacher isn’t only the best-known driver in the DTM, he’s also one of the most-liked and most successful in international motorsport,” adds Norbert Haug, Mercedes’ Vice President for Motorsport. “I rate very highly the fact that Ralf walked the difficult road from Formula 1 to the DTM, boosted the series’ popularity and continuously improved until he scored his first podium.”
