Grosjean to drive Renault on remaining Fridays

29 October 2011

Renault has announced that 2011 GP2 Champion Romain Grosjean will be in action for the final two Friday practice days of the season. The Franco-Swiss will be on-track for the first 90-minute periods of both Abu Dhabi and Brazil, having raced for the Enstone-based outfit in the second half of the 2009 season.

At Yas Marina, Grosjean will replace Bruno Senna for the opening period before taking a turn in Vitaly Petrov’s cockpit as the circus moves to Interlagos for the season finale.

Although the sessions will help to adapt for a possible race drive in F1 next year, Renault’s line-up is already confirmed as the aforementioned Petrov alongside Robert Kubica, should be the Pole be fit enough to return.

“Thank you to all of the people who believed in me and helped me in the tough times,” Grosjean told GPUpdate.net on Saturday.

When asked to share his feelings on those who have shared more critical views of his driving, not least after the difficult seven F1 races of two years ago, he replied:

“Thank you as well those people who have criticised me; they have helped me to get stronger and to push even harder for a Formula 1 comeback.”
