Kobayashi blames Massa for Q1 exit

2011 Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday starting grid

Kamui Kobayashi has pinned the blame for his early qualifying exit on Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, revealing that the Brazilian held him up on his final timed attempt. The Japanese driver ultimately starts from 17th on tomorrow’s grid due to his team-mate's Friday penalty, but believes Sauber still has strong pace to unleash.

"Yeah definitely (it’s disappointing), the last lap was a really good lap but I had traffic with Massa," Kobayashi told reporters after the session. "I couldn’t manage any lap time. We are strong for sure, but I had no luck as well in qualifying."

On the other side of the Sauber garage, Sergio Pérez narrowly made it through to the second phase of qualifying, but he sets off from 20th as a result of his Friday infraction.
