Force India driver decision coming before Abu Dhabi

31 October 2011

Vijay Mallya has confirmed that Force India will verify its 2012 driver line-up ahead of the next Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. The Indian had planned to state his team’s plans in December, although Adrian Sutil has requested an earlier announcement.

With Nico Hülkenberg having been recruited as reserve driver this season, the 2009 GP2 Champion is expected to be confirmed as team-mate to Scotland’s Paul di Resta; this would leave Sutil out of a seat with the Silverstone-based team for the first time in his Formula 1 career, with Williams the most likely alternative.

“Regarding my decision about the 2012 drivers, I have said this week that I will give an answer to the drivers before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” says Mallya, Team Principal and Managing Director. “I already have three excellent drivers who are all in the running and the decision ahead will not be an easy one.”

Force India entered F1 in 2008, with Mallya buying out the Spyker outfit which was originally entered by Eddie Jordan in 1991 and ran under the Midland guise in 2006.
