A tight-lipped Franz Tost is refusing to answer any questions surrounding Toro Rosso’s driver pairing for the 2012 Formula 1 season. A four-way shootout has developed including current duo Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi, with Daniel Ricciardo favourite to take one seat and Jean-Éric Vergne also waiting in the wings.

Drafted into HRT from Silverstone onwards, Ricciardo’s chances remain high although several question marks continue to surround his future team-mate. Buemi looked on course for the seat earlier this season, although Alguersuari has continued to out-perform the Swiss and is now two positions and 11 points ahead in the Drivers’ Championship.

“It is one hundred percent certain that we will be running two Red Bull-backed drivers next year,” Team Principal Tost told Austria’s Sport10. “It is our job to identify talents from the Red Bull driver programme, bring them into Formula 1 and train them up – that is why Red Bull bought this team.”

Frenchman Vergne, British Formula 3 Champion of 2010 and runner-up in this season’s World Series by Renault, will be testing for Red Bull Racing at the three-day Young Driver session which follows the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
