HRT has officially lengthened its technical partnership with Williams F1, according to a statement from the Spanish outfit on Thursday afternoon. The extended contract will carry the deal through to 2012, with Williams set to supply HRT with gearboxes once again but also KERS – a system yet to be used by the new-for-2010 squad.
Thursday’s announcement is joined by an element of irony, as the Formula One Commission has met in Switzerland and one of the key issues discussed was a possible ban on such team-to-team partnerships for future seasons. With this in mind, HRT specifically refers to the current regulations agreed amongst all F1 teams.
‘The deal with Williams F1 strictly follows the terms agreed in the Concorde Agreement and both teams will compete independently in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship,’ reads the statement.
“In these past two years we have established a fruitful collaboration with Williams F1 and are pleased to continue having them play an important role in the development of our team,” says HRT Team Principal Colin Kolles.
“Apart from the experience we have accumulated in these years together, they will not only provide us with the latest technology in gearboxes but we will also reap the benefits of having KERS for next year - this being an important step for our team.”
