Jenson Button is extremely optimistic that McLaren will be able to challenge for a sixth win of the 2011 season in Abu Dhabi next weekend. The Woking squad is yet to claim a victory at Yas Marina, although Lewis Hamilton led from pole in 2009 and both drivers finished on the rostrum last year.
“Our car should suit this circuit, so I’m very optimistic,” says 2009 Champion Button, who has finished third in both of the previous Abu Dhabi races. “We saw at the last Grand Prix that, even though we didn’t have the ultimate speed to catch and pass Sebastian (Vettel), we made him work hard for the win.
“Tactically, McLaren ran a first-class race: I got all the right calls from the pit wall and the pit crew did a fantastic job. The championship may not be at stake any more but we’re still aiming to win races and put on a tremendous show.”
