Adrian Sutil is highly keen to learn of Force India’s plans for the 2012 Formula 1 season. A driver decision had been expected from team head Vijay Mallya prior to this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, although question marks remain over which of the team’s current three drivers which be part of next season’s race line-up.
As has been the case all season, those in the running for a 2012 Force India seat are current races drivers Sutil and Paul di Resta plus Nico Hülkenberg, who joined as reserve for this campaign but was all but promised a race position for next year.
“There is no deadline, but of course I would like to know as soon as possible,” Sutil explained to reporters in the Yas Marina paddock on Thursday.
“I feel very comfortable here, but you always have to meet each other halfway so that is why I asked if a decision could come before the middle of December (as originally planned).”
When quizzed over whether the possible comeback of 2007 Champion Kimi Räikkönen to Williams could affect his own plans, Sutil replied:
“I have no idea. We don’t know if Rubens (Barrichello) is planning to retire or not and I have heard that Kimi wants to come back, but then there is always that risk of whether I team would want to bring back a driver who hasn’t competed for two years. Maybe we will be surprised over the next couple of weeks and see somebody move over in one of the top teams.”
