Virgin Racing has confirmed that Charles Pic will be part of its driver line-up for next week’s Young Driver test session in Abu Dhabi. The Frenchman is being widely reported to have signed a race deal with the Marussia outfit for next season.
“It’s going to be a very special moment for me - one I have been waiting for my whole racing career!” he says. “Formula 1 is my goal, so I will be putting everything I have into the test and look forward to the experience of working with the team and learning as much as I can from them.”
Virgin will run different drivers on each day of the day, with Tuesday seeing reserve driver Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in the cockpit before 21-year-old Pic drives an F1 car for the first time on Wednesday.
Wickens, who took part in Free Practice 1 on Friday morning (right), will then be on-track as the test concludes on Thursday.
It has also been mentioned in the paddock that Pic would test next week for Force India; earlier today, Johnny Cecotto Jr. was confirmed by the Silverstone-based team as one of its runners. Also suggested for Force India has been The Netherlands’ Yelmer Buurman, who ran in the 2010 Young Driver test as well.
