Sergio Pérez has declared himself ‘confident’ ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, having ended Friday’s second practice period 11th fastest and within a tenth of a second of Sauber team-mate Kamui Kobayashi.
“I’m confident for the weekend,” stated the Mexican 2011 newcomer. “We had a good day and completed our programme. Nevertheless, it is difficult to know where we stand as we don’t know what the others were doing today.
“We learnt a lot and we will now continue to work on our qualifying performance for tomorrow. Then we will also try to improve the car’s balance for the long runs.”
In India a fortnight ago, Pérez finished tenth to increase his total number of points so far to 14; he is now seven behind fellow rookie Paul di Resta.
