Felipe Massa ran an old specification front wing in Saturday’s final practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This followed the reoccurring vibrating problem of Friday.
In India a fortnight ago, Massa’s new wing was seen to shake violently in both practice and the race, with the Brazilian immediately pitting to rectify the problem on the second of those occasions. After leaving Noida, Ferrari explained via its website that a quality control issue relating to the wing had been rectified.
Despite the team’s confidence that the issue would not reoccur, the wing again hit the ground – sending up sparks – on Yas Marina’s back straight yesterday; an older version has now been fitted as the new model is taken in for greater scrutiny before Brazil.
