HRT eyes up Clos for 2013 season

2011 Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday

HRT will soon be running a Spanish driver, or one from Latin America. That is according to Saul Ruiz de Marcos, whose Thesan Capital group has this year taken over from Jose Ramón Carabante’s Hispania company as owner of the team. Under particular scrutiny from the Spanish company is GP2 driver Dani Clos.

“After Brazil we will announce who our drivers for next season will be,” Ruiz de Marco said at Yas Marina. When asked if one of those drivers will be a Spaniard, he replied:

“I hope so. I don’t yet know what we can guarantee. Our rookie test driver for next week is Dani Clos, who is a young and talented driver who was second in qualifying for GP2 today.

"He will probably win GP2 next year, so – even if it’s not next year - the team will eventually have one Spanish or Latin American driver over the next two seasons.”

As well as Clos, Javier Villa has also been named as a possible HRT candidate.
