Daniel Ricciardo has explained that a series of post-practice setup changes proved successful in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, with the Australian feeling much more comfortable at the wheel of his HRT F1 machine in qualifying. The Perth-born driver finished the session in 21st place, outpacing team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi.
"It was good fun," Ricciardo told reporters in the paddock. "With the sun coming down it was a nice feeling out there. We’ve made some progress from free practice.
"I wasn’t worried but slightly concerned going into qualifying as we took a few gambles, but it seems that they worked out.
"(The result) is pretty strong, so we have to be happy with that. The last lap I managed to do my best time; I had a strong first sector, but I was maybe blocked slightly by Glock in front who made a mistake around Turns 6 and 7, so maybe that cost me the extra tenth, but he did his best to get out of the way. Anyway, I’m pretty happy!"
