Lewis Hamilton has described his qualifying performance at the Yas Marina Circuit as a ‘big improvement’ over the form he showed in India a fortnight ago, with the McLaren man earning the right to start tomorrow’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from the front row.
Despite setting the pace for much of this evening's qualifying session, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel pulled out a fine late lap to deny the Briton of pole position.
"It was a good session, it’s been a good couple of days," Hamilton explained. "It’s a big improvement for me from the last race at least, we were quick. That was as fast as I was able to get out of my lap, it wasn’t a particularly great lap.
"My lap in Q2 was much better, but that’s the way it is and well done to Seb, he did a great lap and as always was very quick. But the race is tomorrow, that is the most important day."
