Jan Charouz has joined HRT for a morning of testing in Abu Dhabi. The 24-year-old Czech, who is a reserve driver for Lotus Renault GP, will continue the Spanish team’s programme on Wednesday before handing over to Nathanaël Berthon for the afternoon, with the Frenchman then remaining in the car tomorrow.
Charouz has often been the star of Renault’s various demonstration runs and is also testing with the Enstone-based team this week, switching garages for Thursday. In 2006 he was F3000 International Masters Champion and celebrated success in the Le Mans Series with Aston Martin Racing in 2009.
He spent last year in Formula Renault 3.5, the leading championship in the popular World Series by Renault package.
“Although it is not my first time in a Formula 1 car, it will no doubt be a new and interesting experience, since it is the first time I drive the current car,” says the 24-year-old. “It will also be the first time I test the new Pirelli tyres.
“I have driven with this brand’s tyres in other categories but surely the performance and behaviour of the PZero will be surprising. It will be a great opportunity and I thank HRT for giving me the chance to test with them.”
