David Coulthard will be returning to the Race of Champions this year, which takes place in Düsseldorf on the weekend which follows the Brazilian Grand Prix.
With 13 Formula 1 wins behind him, Coulthard retired from the sport at the end of the 2008 season but in 2010 returned to racing in DTM. His F1 debut came in 1994, briefly replacing the late Ayrton Senna at Williams before receiving full-time race drive for 1995. Moves to McLaren and Red Bull came in 1996 and 2005, respectively.
“This will be my sixth appearance at the Race of Champions,” he says. “It’s a totally unique event and it’s a pleasure to take part. Every year there is very exciting racing and for the fans there’s nothing quite like being able to see the whole track. I’ve come pretty close to winning it in the past, so I’ll dust off my helmet again and see what happens this time. But, win or lose, it’s always a bit of fun to end the season.”
In 2009, Coulthard joined the BBC’s new F1 team as pundit before switching to the commentary box this season. He is expected to retain his role in 2012.
