Virgin hopes for positive end to campaign

21 November 2011

Virgin hopes for a strong end to the 2011 campaign as the Formula 1 season ends in Brazil this weekend. The Interlagos event marks the last race at which the team is officially known as Marussia Virgin Racing, with just ‘Marussia’ branding in place for 2012. To date, its best results of the year are a pair of 14th place finishes for rookie Jérôme d’Ambrosio in Australia and Canada.

After its maiden F1 season ended with the final spot in the Constructors’ Championship, Virgin is again on course for 12th overall as HRT and Vitantonio Liuzzi managed a best result of 13th position in Montreal.

“This is of course the final race in what has been a tough but eventful year for the team,” says Team Principal John Booth.

“We’ve put an awful lot in place for the future, however, and whilst it’s always sad to end one season I’m already looking forward to the next.

“Reliability has been the watchword of our 2011 campaign but, disappointingly, we have experienced a couple of problems in the last two races which have prevented us achieving the two-car finish that we have been consistently racking up through the year. I hope we can reverse that situation and end 2011 on a high by getting both cars to the finish this weekend.”
