Adrian Sutil is aiming for a two-place championship jump as the 2011 Formula 1 season ends in Brazil this weekend. Such a result would see him leapfrog Lotus Renault GP drivers Vitaly Petrov and the ousted Nick Heidfeld, with the Russian currently two points ahead in the standings.
In order to successfully complete the rise, Sutil needs to finish in at least eighth position on Sunday, which would take his total to 38.
“I think we should be strong at Interlagos,” says the German, who qualified third quickest for Force India two years ago. “In Abu Dhabi we achieved the maximum because the cars ahead of us were too quick, so we have to aim for the same this weekend.
"Personally, I would love to finish ninth in the Drivers' Championship and to do that I need to score at least four points.”
Sutil’s future remains unknown. Nico Hülkenberg is expected to be promoted from the reserve driver role at Force India, which means – if Paul di Resta is retained – the more experienced man could be transferring to another team, such as Williams.
