Bruno Senna was in high spirits after his qualifying performance at Interlagos on Saturday, describing his top ten result as ‘a victory in itself’. The Lotus Renault GP driver has earned the right to start his home race from a highly impressive ninth on the grid, six positions ahead of Russian team-mate Vitaly Petrov.
"I'm very happy with that," Senna explained. "It was not what I was expecting when the weekend started but it’s good news. We knew the car had good potential here, but we just weren’t sure the level of that potential, the R31 behaved very well today!
The Brazilian believes even more was possible in Q3 if he hadn’t used an old set of Soft tyres, with the squad opting to save rubber for tomorrow’s race.
"In Q2, the team put a good car together and we did a great job," he added. "It’s a shame we had used tyres going into Q3 because we could have had an even better result. Having said that, being in Q3 was a victory in itself."
Senna is one of many names on team boss Eric Boullier's list for a seat in 2012, with no shortfall of talented drivers currently vying for a place at the Enstone outfit.
