Webber hails 'very important' triumph

2011 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

Mark Webber has described his first and only victory of the 2011 season as a ‘very important’ one, with the Australian now heading into the winter break in the perfect frame of mind. Having initially held second position, the Red Bull driver overtook team-mate Sebastian Vettel when the latter developed a gearbox problem.

"Yeah I feel very good, the car has felt good all weekend," said Webber. "Seb did a great job for pole but today I had the rub of the green. It would have been nice to race Seb all the way though, but he had a little problem.

"It’s a win that you’ll take, for Seb that’s bad luck or whatever you want to call it, but it’s a very important win for me and team. It’s great to finish on a high. I enjoyed the last few laps in particular, as it’s always nice to pit later and cover people off.

"It was a nice way to finish, and I’d like to dedicate this victory to a close friend of myself and my family, Bob Woods, he’s a very ill man at the moment."

Further post-race feelings from Red Bull:

- Vettel refuses to regret gearbox issue
- Red Bull expected Vettel to retire
