Jenson Button has insisted that third place was the best result he could have hoped for in Brazil on Sunday, the McLaren driver finishing in the same position that he started. Having dropped behind Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso early on, the 2009 Champion fought back and reclaimed the place on the harder Pirelli compound.
"It was a difficult race for me on the softer of two tyres," Button admitted. "With the first pass, Fernando was close into Turn 3 so covered line into the next corner, but there was debris on the track.
"As soon as I saw the debris, I had to back out of it and pull behind him. Then, I didn’t have pace on softer of the two tyres, so I put the harder tyre on for the last two stints, and it worked pretty well for me.
"I hunted down Alonso again, as Ferrari struggle on the harder of the two tyres. But third was the best I could get, it was like qualifying every lap."
