Race was similar to 2006, explains Schumacher

2011 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

Michael Schumacher believes his race at Interlagos on Sunday afternoon drew major similarities to his final pre-sabbatical Grand Prix at the same venue in 2006. Having started from tenth on the grid, the Mercedes GP driver was contesting ninth place with Bruno Senna when the pair collided, leaving Schumacher with a left-rear puncture.

"It was a difficult one," Schumacher told BBC Sport. "I had some memories of 2006 with Bruno, the last race that I did before my retirement. It was exactly the same circumstances (the contact at Turn 1), with someone that had difficulty to take the normal corner trajectory and then ran into me.

"It would have been a nice race and we could have taken home some solid points. My balance for the first two stints due to some damage wasn’t perfect, but that last was okay.

"To sum up, we now look forward to next year! We have a tough and strong winter ahead. Everyone is working hard to get us where we should be, which is closer to winning ways."
