2011 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

Marussia Virgin has been fined €5,000 (£4,300) by FIA race stewards after a wheel flew off Timo Glock’s car in the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.

Virgin was involved in a pit lane battle with HRT when the German was released too soon, with the left-rear wheel duly making its way from the car as Glock became the first retirement at Turn 4.

The unsafe pit lane release resulted in the fine for a breach of Article 23.1 (j) of the Sporting Regulations, which states that:

‘It is the responsibility of the competitor to release his car after a pit stop only when it is safe to do so.’
