Petrov’s management deciding future with LRGP

Petrov’s management deciding future with LRGP

30 November 2011

On Wednesday, Lotus Renault GP is meeting with the management of Vitaly Petrov in order to decide the Russian’s future. Although he has one year remaining on his contract, Petrov’s drive is under threat from Romain Grosjean and Bruno Senna.

Petrov joined the team for the start of 2010 before picking up his first podium finish in the opening race of this year. However, tension between he and LRGP was revealed in a Russian television interview after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix; it is now uncertain as to whether the final year of his deal will be terminated.

“I have a meeting tomorrow morning to decide what we are doing, whether we are staying or not,” Oksana Kossatchenko, manager to Petrov, explained to Reuters on Tuesday.

“We will have a discussion. I guess we will find a solution and then we will have a few days to sort it out - we would like to know the plan from the team before we confirm our presence in the team. We will make an analysis of the year and then decide whether we can collaborate and go forward together, or if it is better for us to split.”

Kossatchenko added that Petrov’s number one priority is to stay with LRGP, which on Tuesday announced the signing of 2007 Champion Kimi Räikkönen on a two-year deal.

“I would like to stay with what we have at the moment, so the best option is to keep Vitaly in Lotus for the next year,” she summed up, adding than a ‘Plan B’ and ‘Plan C’ have already been materialised.
